PIGMENTS
From an early age I have been interested in rocks and colour. With my family we used to visit a small town 3 hours from Bogota that was surrounded by a desert called La Candelaria, where you could collect fossils and where colourful rocks were scattered all over the ground. Today, the fossils are long gone, but the colourful rocks are still there. Here is where I started to collect rocks in 2015, but, unfortunately, in the last couple of years the area has seen a huge increase of weekend homes development threatening the survival of the colourful rocks. The starting point of my work is the creation of the pigments which are as important as the paintings and which are exhibited along my other works. Since 2016, due to environmental concerns, I started using egg tempera instead of turpentine to make my pigments trying to have a practice as environmentally neutral as possible.
